  1. Just because those whales are cute people are outraged at them being killed, same with fox hunting, not that I’m supporting it, it’s just if a fox had a squid-face and was very grotesque nobody would say a thing about them being hunted! Same with Whales.

Animals eat and kill other animals all the time, so why shouldn’t we kill them for food? If we weren’t supposed to eat them they wouldn’t be made of meat!!!!

  2. BTW,
I’m not saying that this is any less of an issue than before, but maybe you’d want to do research first. Denmark isn’t to blame for this. The Faroese have their own government and are fully independent. They are a commonwealth of Denmark but are not a part of the EU, even though they share some agreements with the EU. You can visit this website for more info:
    http://www.whaling.fo

It is the website of the Faroese government about whaling.

  3. This is a tradition that the inhabitants of the Faroes have taken part in since the earliest settlers landed. The Pilot Whale is only harvested on years when it comes near enough to the shore in most places. It is not simply “for sport” or profit, The whales are actually used for consumption. Some families might actually go hungry without the free distribution of this food source. and one more thing… PILOT WHALES ARE THE SOME OF THE MOST COMMON MARINE MAMMAL. I agree with the notion that people are only upset because they are “cute”. Whaling is actually a problem and concern with other species, species that these islands DO NOT hunt. Those are the issues to get up in arms about.

  4. THIS IS NOT DENMARK
Who the fuck are they trying to fool?
There’s no such landscape in denmark
Denmark has no mountains or hills..
So shut the fuck up, I live here myself

  5. Yes, Polarbearzombie, lets hope the oceans get even more polluted. So NO seafood can be eaten. How wonderful that will be.

The fact that pollution leaves animals sick and kills them… well… who cares! As long as they are unfit for human consumption.

  6. Please stop killing Dophins. They are our friends. We cannot find other underwater species that is so friendly with human beings.
Why do you kill them so much like that? From times to times, you may have a fishing strip, one or two dophins get killed, then that is normal.
    Thanks,
    LUONG TAM

  7. “All human beings and animals, tears are salty, blood is red liking to live and afraid of dying the same. Why do human beings kill animals?
    Please everyone thinks about it.

    Thao Dao

  8. It was so horrible to see such a cruel scene. I hope they would understand the teachings of compassion and the teachings of the law of cause and effect. According to the law of cause and effect, they are hurting other sentient beings now, they will get the consequences in ten times more in the future either this life or in the next lives. If they are killing that many dolphins, they they kill get killed by others as many lives that they get to repay for those animals in the future live times.
I hope they would realized what they’ve done to themselves soon, so they can repentence for their ignorant actions, and hope the dolphins would forgive them somehow….so their lives to come will get around a little bit easier.

  9. Does anyone know how to send this to National Geographic or the Sea Shephard. That would advertise it to the whole world and put pressure on Demark government to do something. It is similar to the Japanese Whaling.

  10. Whale tastes very good!!! and i would kill a 1000 more if i could get it:) there friends are very tasty… We even put them in burgers…How many of you have ever even seen a whale? and we wont stop before the world stops eating kow and chicken. And we do this, and it is proven, that this is not hurting the whale economy, and there is plenty left, so do not fear, and come to the Faroes, and try some whale, and if your lucky you might even get to kill some…Most turist look scared at the start, but when they find out that this is culture, like british eat fish and chips, they jump in and help, and get theyr share…

    Pease..

  11. Um, this isn’t Denmark, or Europe. Please stop saying that it is, it only shows your ignorance.

  12. BabelnPink,

You should stop pointing fingers to Denmark about this, it is from the Faroe Islands. Furthermore you’re directly painting these people’s culture in a way that is not very nice. Where are you from? USA? Let’s see, do you even know how many cows get killed each day for American consumption?

You fault someone’s culture, why don’t you fault the way that goats are treated in Africa, or chicken are battery farmed in America? You judge people because these animals look “cute”, and have no insight into why these people do this. We can’t all live in a rich society where we can go to the nearest 7/11 and buy our burgers and food easily. These peoples and islands are very poor and this food is very important to them. Would you rather have these people die of hunger because some “cool” kids think it’s unfair to the animals that looks cute to be consumed?

If there’s something I don’t like, then it’s people who base all their opinions on something they read on a radical frustrated youth blog. Read up on the Faroe Islands, or Norway for that matter. Norway whaled because it was _one of the few sources of food_, they aren’t blessed with fertile ground and places where they could have much livestock. If it wasn’t for oil Norway would still be among the poorest countries in the world. Please for heaven’s sake learn people’s culture before you cuss their way of living.

  13. Everybody..
I can’t believe you’re even discussing this.. How is this worse than anything else we humans do ? – to each other or other kinds of animals..?
This event happens once a year on the Faroe Islands, and the catch is always used to it’s fullest extent – that be the meat, skins, bones, oils, intestins, etc. It’s no more primitive than to put 400 chickens into a chicken-killing machine in a chicken-killing factory. In fact, i’ts much much better, cause this only happens when..? That’s right. ONCE a year.
But we see a shoreline of blood. Shure, it looks scary that picture, but come on, what do you really know about this? The people there will do what they have been doing for a thousand years – and NO, this specific type of whale is NOT an endangered species, but measures are being taken (by the quite up-to-date-intelligent faroe-people..) to keep watch on levels, of course..
( !!! POLLUTION OF THE MEAT IS MORE LIKELY TO STOP THIS HUNTING, THAN ANY OTHER STUPID, SELFRIGHTEOUS PROTEST OR CAMPAIGN !!! )

  14. I think it’s incredible that you can’t do your research before suggesting such a protest. Most of the things you have wrote in this article is plain bullshit, excuse my language.

Faroe Island is not a part of EU. Greenland and Faroe Islands have the same relationship to Denmark. We’re a part of the Danish Kingdom, yet we have our own parliament.

    This isn’t an annual thing.

These aren’t dolphins, they are pilot whales. There are occasions where a group of dolphins are mistaken to be whales and are slaughtered (no need to give that word a negative meaning, since all meat comes from slaughtered animals) but now people think that it is a regular part of the “feast”.

The reason people react strongly when seeing pictures of the slaughtering, is because they see a lot of blood. That is because they are cut open on the beach, and the blood spreads in the water. It is not any crueler than the slaughtering of any other animal, that you eat every single day (to intentional vegetarians, eat some fucking meat, it’s good for you; although a the whale meat contains relatively much mercury and the fat contains too much PCB) so the only reason you feel compassion for these animals, is because the media (not only them though) is playing with your minds, manipulating you with propaganda and psychological tricks.

In my own opinion. I assess that the most morally conflicting thing happening here is the mass-brainwashing of our own species, not the killing of a group of other species.

Also, I’m aware of the chance of OP being an epic troll.

  15. With that post, I’m assuming that you all know that pilot whales are not a threatened species. And if all whales were let to live at own free will, they’d eat up a lot of fish, that might ruin the Faroe Islands’ economy (>95% of the income is from fishing) and other countries, whose economy is based on fish.

  16. To Agnes Maing.

Dear ignorant bitch, you are in no position to judge a whole kingdom out from what you’ve seen on an article with no solid sources and false facts. You don’t even take in consideration that this is a big bowl of bullshit, and that you’re promoting something that might very possibly lead to fatal destruction of a countries economy (a moral point, since your only motivation is moral) and maraud of tradition, that is completely human. If you’d see where any meat comes from, you’d be shocked and disgusted (I’m assuming that you’re totally ignorant, because you have only shown that side of you) and you would probably go vegetarian, which is not healthy (!) and not at all natural.

  17. HOW DO THE PEOPLE SLEEP AT NIGHT KNOWING WHAT U DID. I would never go to Demark, sick sick people ?. just like the people in canada killing the seals in the east part of canada. sean
